Sarasota Architecture

Not only does Halflants + Pichette dedicate ourselves to Sarasota architecture, but also to the community of architects and the future of our industry. From educating other architects to working with students and leading our AIA chapter, we focus on the efficacy of Sarasota architecture.

10 X 10

The 10 x 10's are events intended to introduce a diverse group of leaders and creative minds to our community. Every few months, 10 speakers present 10 images of their work, interest, or inspiration. Slides automatically advance with brief introductions between speakers. It's intended as an informal and face paced event. Past speakers have included curators, painters, politicians, musicians, writers, and community activists.  Michael Halflants has organized the event series since 2009.

Michael Halflants joined the outstanding Sarasota Visual Artists Studios group in 2018.  SVAS is the collaboration of a diverse group of Sarasota visual artists opening their studios to the public on the first Saturday of every month during the local season (Dec– Mar).  Visitors are invited to visit the studios, meet the artists, and see and learn about their work processes in the environments where it all begins.  SVAS also display their work in joint exhibits.  Pictured from left are photographer Barbara Banks, artists Duncan Chamberlain, Larry Forgard, Gay Germain, Bill Buchman, Dasha Reich, architect Michael Halflants, and painter Grace Howl.

Michael Halflants is a tenured architecture professor at University of South Florida's Tampa campus.  Since 2002, he has been teaching graduate design studios as well as seminars on tropical architecture and modern housing.  He has led study abroad programs in Japan, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, and the Yucatan.  In 2010, he was recognized for his work as an educator with the McMinn Award from the Florida / Caribbean AIA.
