The Bohemian Restaurant in Holmes Beach represents a complete renovation and transformation of an existing building on Anna Maria Island. Originally built as a small drug store and later converted into a restaurant, the structure has been reimagined by Halflants + Pichette as a contemporary dining destination that reflects the relaxed character of the island. The project combines interior renovation with expanded outdoor dining areas, bringing together modern design and coastal atmosphere in equal measure.
The reconfiguration extends the dining experience beyond the building. Shaded and open-air gathering spaces flow naturally from the interior to the surrounding tropical landscape, capturing the essence of Anna Maria Island living. Materials and finishes were chosen for durability and warmth, creating an inviting environment that connects guests to both the architecture and the setting.

A defining feature of the renovation is a custom one-hundred-ten-foot canopy fitted with one hundred sixty blue folded acrylic panels. The canopy provides shade for over twenty-eight hundred square feet of outdoor seating and a full-service bar, establishing a lively atmosphere while offering comfort from the coastal sun. Its sculptural form gives the restaurant a clear visual identity along Marina Drive, making The Bohemian an instantly recognizable destination.
As Holmes Beach architects, Halflants + Pichette designed The Bohemian to celebrate the island’s easygoing rhythm while introducing a fresh, modern energy. The design strengthens the local commercial fabric, supporting the ongoing evolution of Marina Drive as a vibrant social corridor. The result is a coastal restaurant that feels both rooted in place and confidently contemporary, a reflection of the firm’s expertise in commercial architecture across Anna Maria Island.
