GUBBERMAN-KENNEDY RESIDENCE

Adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico, the small site sits behind a large two-story residence that blocks the views of the water. In an attempt to regain those views, the design takes advantage of two view corridors through the setbacks of the larger neighboring lots.

The house is divided into two wings. The main living quarters are on the second floor to take full advantage of the views. The ground floor accommodates the guest bedrooms, a small guest living, and the foyer. By creating this split and re-gaining those view corridors for its residence, the design also captures the setting sun at different moments throughout the year. The Kitchen view corridor captures the setting sun in the winter, while the Living Space captures the summer setting sun – thereby allowing the design to create a sense of place and purpose within its surrounding context.
